Experience More Peace in Your Relationships

When there is conflict in the home, workplace, or community, we suffer. Sometimes we are worried about a loved one’s behavior. Sometimes we cannot find common ground with our partner. Often, we don’t know how to communicate our feelings, needs, and concerns.

FAMILY/COUPLES CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Conflict within one's family is one of life's greater challenges. Whether it's a painful partnership that isn't currently working well or a young person in the family is struggling with substances, school issues, or identity questions, we all can use some support in moving forward.

As a therapist, I find helping people with family and relationship struggles to be particularly powerful. We want a solution, some resolution, as quickly as possible so that peace, functioning, and perhaps even joy can be restored. In some cases, there has rarely been peace and functioning, so it might be difficult to even imagine how this might look. This is where Sundog Counselling can help.

Nonviolent/Compassionate Communication

Nonviolent or Compassionate communication is one process of moving through conflict in relationships (family, work, community). While it is relatively simple, it is not always easy.

The process of NVC follows a four step approach:

  1. Making an Observation (Not a “Story”)

  2. Identifying Feelings (Not Thoughts)

  3. Recognizing Needs or Values (Not Strategies)

  4. Sharing a Request (Not a Demand)

One of the foundations of NVC is the need to move beyond right vs wrong, good vs bad. This is quite difficult for some of us.

Another challenge in applying NVC to our relationships is when our nervous systems experience activation, or fight/flight. Sundog Counselling can help explore these dynamics in an effort to find more flow and less tension in your important relationships.
